Find out more about TED and TEDx
Maybe you’ve heard of TED or TEDx before, but what exactly is TED? And what is TEDx? What are the differences between TED and TEDx? Here’s a quick recap for those who want to learn more about TED and TEDx.
TED is a global nonprofit community who welcomes people from every discipline and culture in spreading ideas to change attitudes, lives and a little bit of the world. These ideas are usually spread in the form of short, inspiring and powerful talks of 18 minutes or less. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design come together. Nowadays you still see these 3 topics, but also talks in all other topics are spread in more than 100 languages. Now TED organises conferences for TED-talks and they also have TED-Ed(ucation) and TED prizes.
Monica Lewinsky: The price of shame
In 1998, says Monica Lewinsky, “I was Patient Zero of losing a personal reputation on a global scale almost instantaneously.” Today, the kind of online public shaming she went through has become a constant. In a brave talk, she takes a look at our “culture of humiliation,” in which online shame equals dollar signs — and demands a different way.
Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action
Simon Sinek presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question “Why?” His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers — and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling.
Kermit the Frog: The creative act of listening to a talking frog
Kermit the Frog is an entertainment icon known worldwide for his appearances on The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, as well as a number of feature films. He attributes much of his success to his thirty-five year partnership with Mississippi native and entertainment visionary, Jim Henson.
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission “ideas worth spreading”. It supports independent organizers globally who want to create a TED-event in their community. TEDx gives everyone a chance to speak up and be on that stage and share their idea which can be in a diversity of topics. From the peaceful feeling you get from freediving to survivors talking about their story or watch amazing and inspiring photography from different aspects of the world. You name it and you get it. Watch featured TEDx talks here or watch our talks from the event “Pursuit of Happiness”.
Fun fact! Did you know that there are over 16,020 TEDx events organized and that there are 1,507 events coming up?
